Issue 4 — June 2024

It is often said that home is where the heart is. But sometimes, all that the heart yearns is to step out of what we have always known as home. Travels often not only acquaints us with a new world but also helps us see our home or homeland in a new light. The fourth issue of Littera Magazine explores the human impulse of wanting to seek ourselves at what we call home, the beyond and in-betweens.  It features an excerpt from the recent English translation of Syed Mujtaba Ali’s Joley Dangay where Ali recounts the beginning of his journey from Madras, a conversation with the book’s translator Nazes Afroz that examines the relevance of the master’s oeuvre in today’s tumultuous postcolonial world, and finally, an essay by Ayaan Halder where he writes about marginal lives, masculinity and what it means to live in India’s North East.
