Submission Guideline
Littera currently accepts nonfiction submissions that are ideally at least 2,500 words long.
We seek to publish credible voices that engage the reader with a sound argument, have the necessary emotional core to persuade them that reading this essay is worth their time and effort, and that it is not just a repetition of what has already been said. Anything highly topical, driven by the 24/7 news-cycle, that only has utility for the duration everyone is talking about—is something that does not interest us. We want the essays to remain fresh, evergreen so that a future reader can come back to it and still find it worth reading.
Book and film reviews are also welcome and encouraged.
We are a little bored with poetry, short-stories and self-serious works of creative and non-fiction narratives. But if you think you have something really interesting, feel free to share your pitch.
You can also submit an essay that you have written. However, we prefer a submission pitch that communicates a clear idea of what you want to write about, why you feel this topic merits an essay and why people ought to read about it. In short, a good pitch should have a distilled thesis statement. If possible, give us a sense of the perspective through which you want to explore the issue.
It might take us a while to get back to you regarding your submission. It usually takes a few weeks. We allow simultaneous submissions. In case you choose to publish elsewhere, do let us know.
Payment Policy
We have a writers fund from which we pay a small honorarium. The figure changes based on whatever amount we have available to us on a given month. We communicate the details with the writer at the time of commissioning an essay. Feel free to reach out to us for more information on this.
Donate
We are a small team of people who are paying out of our pockets to run the writers fund. You can help us support it by donating money. For more info, reach out to us.
